Esteros del Ibera Reserva Natural

Ubicado en la provincia de Corrientes, en el noreste de la República Argentina, el ecosistema conocido como Esteros del Iberá debe su nombre a la laguna homónima situada en la zona centro oriental de este inmenso sistema de humedales. La palabra Iberá está formada por dos vocablos de la lengua guaraní: ¨Î¨, agua, que antepuesto a ¨berá¨, brillante, en su traducción al castellano expresa al sitio como ¨el agua que resplandece o brilla¨, nombre que supuestamente le dieron sus originales pobladores guaraníes al observar el brillo chispeante de su superficie.
Esta peculiaridad es visible en sus espejos de agua durante la aurora o el anocher, cuando la quietud propia de un sistema cerrado, sin corrientes fluviales, se quiebra con la brisa producida por el cambio de temperatura entre la superficie terrestre circundante y el agua de los esteros o lagunas, provocando un movimiento superficial que refleja con efectos muy particulares la luz solar crepuscular.
Existe sin embargo cierta objeción sobre este origen de la denominación, porque entre los pobladores perdura aún la creencia de que el nombre se debe a la heroica princesa Iberá, la hija del cacique guaraní que se sumergió en los esteros para proteger la dignidad de su cultura 1.
En realidad este nombre ha ido evolucionando con el devenir del tiempo, ya que existen registros que identifican originalmente al sitio como Esteros de Cará Cará, debido a que en este lugar vivían los aborígenes emigrados de la Misión de Santa Ana por crímenes cometidos, se los conocía por “Caracará”, nombre dado también a un ave de rapiña carroñera: el “carancho” (Figueredo, 1929)

Esteros del Ibera Natural Reserve

The Ibera natural Reserve is located in the province of Correintes, in the northeast of the Argentine Republic, the known ecosystem as Esteros del Iberá must to their name to the Ibera lagoon located in the zone Eastern center of this immense system of humedals. This peculiarity is visible in its water mirrors during the aurora or anocher, when the own calm of a closed system, without fluvial currents, bankruptcy with the breeze produced by the change of temperature between the surrounding terrestrial surface and the water of the matting or lagoons, causing itself a superficial movement that reflects with very particular effects the solar light to crepuscular. Certain objection exists nevertheless on this origin of the denomination, because between the settlers the belief that still lasts the name must to heroic princess Iberá, the daughter of the guaraní cacique who submerged in the matting to protect the dignity of his culture 1. In fact this name has been evolving with happening of the time, since registries exist that they originally identify to the site like Matting of Expensive Face, because in this place the emigrated natives lived on the Mission of Santa Ana by committed crimes, knew by “Caracará”, name also given to a bird of rotten prey: the “owl” (Figueredo, 1929)era@esterosdelibera.com
